The Case For Giving
| The
Sugar Ray Robinson Youth Foundation stands on the cutting edge
of the social horizon and recognizes the urgency to address
these and other pressing needs.
|
 |
| Its staff and
volunteer leadership have developed a strategic plan that
proposes bold, innovative programs that are in step and
responsive programs that are in step and responsive to today’s
challenges. The plan is proactive and holds significant
potential for effective impact.
|
For the past 30 years, Sugar Ray Robinson Youth Foundation has been
held to the same level of government funding. (Public sources such as
Los Angeles County and the California Youth Authority account for 80% of
the total budget.) Yet operational needs and costs have escalated and
will continue to increase steadily in the future. To make an effective
impact on local needs, it is necessary to double the annual programming
fund.
In order to achieve economies of scale and maximize efficiency, the
Foundation is committed to fine tuning its operations. Cost efficiencies
can be further realized by centralizing operations at one facility.
Because the Foundation does not own a recreational facility, it relies
on the use of school campuses in Los Angeles and Orange counties and
spends thousands of dollars transporting students to these venues.
Tens of thousands of youth have benefited from the Sugar Ray
movement, and many more desperately need and want to be involved. For so
many of them, the only alternative is street life. Gangs. Drugs.
Truancy. A life of crime.
To meet these challenges, the Foundation is seeking additional
resources – both financial and in-kind. Public resources must be
leveraged by your generosity. It’s our community’s only hope.
